Create a Guided Journey Assignment

Create immersive reading experiences where students explore AI-selected highlights and engage in thoughtful conversations with the AI coach.

Step 1: Readings

In the first step you are asked to select the relevant reading material and set the assignment type. 

1. Reading Material

  • From Library: Use the dropdown to select a reading from your course’s library.
  • Upload Your Own: Click the Upload button to add a PDF (max 100MB, up to 100 pages).

2. Assignment Type

Guided Journey: Students explore key highlights selected by the AI coach and engage in guided conversations. The coach asks targeted questions to deepen understanding and help students build their answers.

3. AI Academic Coach Settings 

The AI coach is currently enabled with discussion-based answers, meaning:

  • Students interact with the coach.
  • The coach generates answers based on the conversation.

Step 2: Assignment

1. Generate Your Assignment with AI

Click the Generate button to automatically create:

  • A suggested title
  • One open-ended question

2. Title and Instructions

  • Add or edit a clear title.
  • Optionally, include general instructions to guide your students.

Questions

1. Edit and Delete Questions

  • Edit: Click inside the question field. After editing, click Generate Highlights and Concepts to update the AI’s guidance.
  • Delete: Click the bin icon on the question card.

2. Student-Facing Highlights

  • The AI coach selects relevant highlights from the reading.
  • Students read and discuss these key passages through guided questions.

3. Concepts Covered

  • These are the core ideas students will explore during the reading and conversation.
  • Concepts are automatically identified based on the question and text.

4. Add Questions 

  • Manual: Click Compose Question to write your own.
  • AI-Generated: Click Generate Question to get suggestions from the AI.

Step 3: Publish

1. Time Frame

  • Due Date: Click the calendar icon or type the date manually.
  • Due Time: Optional—add a specific time for submission.

2. Grading Options

  • Graded Assignment: Set point values to determine assignment weight.
  • Ungraded Assignment: Uncheck the grading box.

3. Publish

  • Save as Draft: Keep working and publish later.
  • Publish: Share the assignment with your students.
