Self Directed Questions Step 1: Add Questions and Highlight

Survey the Text 

Take the time to review your instructor's questions in the left-hand panel [1] before you start reading the text so that you establish your reading/learning objectives for the session. 

Once the objectives are clear start reading the document but with the clear intention of looking for sections in the text that you could use to answer your instructor's questions.

When you find one - highlight it. 

 

Add Questions

If you see an 'Add question' button, it means you have to come up with questions of your own regarding this text.

  1. To add a question, click the “Add question” button and type your question.
  2. You can edit and delete questions by using the question menu.

Create Highlights

To create a highlight:

  1. Click on a question in the left side panel
  2. Select relevant passages (a.k.a 'supporting evidence') in the text.

By doing so the text selection is automatically highlighted and saved as a card inside your question 'folder'. Every time you click on that question, the highlight will appear on the text.

Delete Highlights

To delete a highlight:

  1. Click once on the highlight you wish to delete and then click on the bin icon.
  2. Alternatively, you can delete a highlight by clicking the bin icon on the highlight card on the left side panel.

How to Change Highlight Color

  1. To change the color of a highlight, click on the highlight and then select a color.
  2. To change the default highlighting color, click on the highlight icon on the top blue action bar and select the desired color.

How to Show All Highlights

  1. To see all your highlights at once (and not according to selected question) click on he highlight icon on the top blue action bar and then click on "Show all highlights" in the menu.
  2. To go back to standard view, click on "Show all highlights" again.
